The most famous of the many famous brands started only in 1935 when introduced by the Herman Upman factory. The name is reported to have been inspired by Alexandre Dumas' 1844 novel 'Le Comte de Monte Cristo'. The brand originally appeared in 5 sizes described by numbers. Other sizes like the 'A' and Especiales were added in the early 1970s. There are no machine made shapes in this range and the strength is medium.

A beautifully made cigar. Strong hints of earth with solid leather and wood flavours.
Especial SBN
Quite a special cigar given the dexterity needed by the torcedor to create it, yet the cigar is milder than one might expect from Montecristo, with pleasant earthy flavour and light spice notes.
Joyita
Has a rich taste, with a subtle, fragrant aroma.
Mini Cigarillos
Montecristo A
A great looking cigar with a beautiful oily sheen on the wrapper. An excellent draw leads to a sweet spice, nutmeg flavour with an earthy undertone. It has a mild finish which intensifies. Greaat balance.
No. 1
An extremely well balanced cigar. Great looking. It has a smooth spiciness with a note of sweet nutmeg and dried citrus with a solid woody finish.
No. 2
A full bodied cigar with an excellent core of earthy flavours and some vivid pepper notes on the palate.

No. 3
Is a consistent cigar of medium strength, taste and aoma. Spicy.
No. 4
A perfumed aroma makes this an attractive cigar. It has smooth round flavours of herbed spices and an undertone of cocoa beans. It is full bodied and spicy.
No. 5
Has the same strength and aroma as the No.4, but is an ideal quick smoke after lunch or dinner when there is a shortage of time.
Petit Tubos A/T
A basic earth flavour dominates this cigar, with an undertone of woodiness and a full bodied spicy finish.
Tubos A/T
